I have wanted a tattoo since I was 20. I'm 45. I finally got my tattoo this year and I could not love it more!

At 20, and again at 30, and again at 40, I could not decide what I was sure I would be happy with at 80. I had some ideas but nothing that I was really sure about. And since it's permanent, I decided to wait.

At 45 I finally knew for sure what I wanted and I followed some fine line tattoo artists on instagram. This year has been a lot and there's a part of me that feels some urgency to do things now and not wait. Maybe it's middle-age, maybe it's the fall of democracy, hard to know. In any case, I got my tattoo - which is really 3 tattoos! And they bring me joy every day.

If you're wondering, they're symbols of my family - the fern is for my son, the orchid is for my daughter, and the bird of paradise flower is for my husband. I love that I can see them all the time!! They're so stunning.

The artist is Jamie at Hidden Vibes Tattoo and he's an absolute expert at delicate fine-line tattoos. The best.
